“Ryder Lake Llamas & Alpaca” Experience the wonderful world of camelids. Help feed the alpacas, turtles, llamas, and chickens. Come meet Handsome Harry our newest Llama and our pregnant Llama too. Maureen will be spinning again this year with lots of things to see.

(Entrance off Ryder Lake Road) Come and watch this B.C. Mountain Trail Challenge riding event. All ages of riders and horses showcasing their talents over a wide range of obstacles.

Extensive gardens with masses of peonies and a unique gazebo on a rock promontory. Stunning 180 degree views of the entire Ryder Lake valley and North to Mt Cheam and Agassiz.

“RLDD Farm” Exotic llamas and friendly miniature donkeys. Extensive arbour garden with grapes, kiwi, wisteria and more. Hummingbird heaven! Locally made jams, jellies, chutneys and preserves available. Annual Ramble plant sale at VPG Nursery. Proceeds shared 50/50 with VPG backyard Gleaning program and Ryder Lake Hall.

The garden is a collection of rare cold hardy plants. Old World Rose's ... Hardy Bitter Orange trees from China... Blue Bean Shrubs ( pods contain a gelatanous mucous surrounding beans used in Asian Soups) ... a young Monkey tree from the Andes ( originating in the Western Hemisphere from 7 seeds , smuggled out in the hollow cane of a British diplomat). ...plus many winding paths and ascending steps to wander through this mountain top preserve.  Tours with the original garden designer at 11am and 1pm. Orange and lemon trees, and other plants for sale.

“Doug’s Cabin” [lower half of Clegg Family Farm] Come explore this track through the second growth forest that leads to the first home here built by Doug May in 1969. Banks of ferns dotted with Trilliums, a large variety of birds, towering cedars, squirrels and other wild residents. Watch for the hollow stump (only the smallest children would fit inside). As you reach the cabin the forest opens to a glen where like most of Ryder Lake you often see deer. Check out the forest trails at the bottom of the glen. Maps available

Trails and Drive-Bys 

A
Mt Thom Park Trail

Hike to the viewpoint at the top of Mt Thom and be rewarded by sweeping views west across the Fraser Valley and Cultus Lake. The round trip walk is 2.5 km up a gravel and dirt trail takes 30 to 40 minutes.

Toad tunnel

Opposite Hornby Lake under Elk View Rd. A toad tunnel was constructed in 2015 to protect Western toads and other amphibians who need to cross the road safely between the wetland – where they breed, and the forest – where they live as adults. A Fraser Valley Conservancy Amphibian Protection Project. FVC volunteers will be at the Hall to provide more information.

Elk Mountain Trail 

This 8 km round trip hike climbs gently through the forest and then there are some
steep sections up to the alpine meadow where the wildflowers should be in in full bloom.  Spectacular views of the Fraser Valley from the lookout or continue further along the Elk-Thurston Ridge for views of the Chilliwack River Valley, Mount Slesse and Border Peaks.
